Treatment Types, Retention; Gadsden, Alabama Orthodontist

Retention is essentially the process of a patient using a retainer after the orthodontic care process. Retainers literally "retain," or hold, your teeth in their new place. Their natural tendancy is to slowly move back to their pre-care positions. Retainers keep them there so that your progress remains with you for many years to come!

There are two types of retainers offered:

Removable Retainers
These are meant to be worn on a part-time basis, such as during your sleep.

Fixed Retainers
These are cemented, and are usually bonded behind the lower front teeth. Propery flossing and brushing are essential for this treatment.

Once your appliances are removed, you will choose which type of retainer you would like. You will wear your retainers full time for the first month after your braces are removed.
