Foods to Avoid with Braces; Gadsden, Alabama Orthodontist

Possibly the toughest part of having braces, for many people, is giving up certain foods that can be harmful to your new braces. We know it's tough, but refraining from foods like the ones listed below can help prevent damage to your braces, which can delay the removal of your braces.

Avoid the following:

  • Chewy/Sticky foods, such as:
    • Gum
    • Sugar Daddies
    • Tootsie Rolls
    • Starburst
    • Licorice
    • Taffy
  • Hard foods, such as:
    • Ice
    • Nuts
    • Hard candies (such as Jolly Ranchers, jawbreakers)
    • Crispy bread/crust/taco shells
    • Chips
    • Corn on the cob
    • "Crisp" fruits and veggies, such as apples or carrots, unless they are cut into small pieces
  • Minimize sugary foods, treats, and drinks, such as:
    • Ice Cream
    • Cake
    • Cookies
    • Pie
    • Candy (unless it is chewy or hard, in which case you should avoid it!)
    • Soda/sweet tea/other sugary drinks
